The dome represents a major development at the Taupo Top Ten Holiday Park which included a new Grotto or ‘swim in cave’ as the main attraction of the new swimming pool design. The reinforced concrete dome, which spans 9m and has a height of 3.5m above the water line, was cast on mounded pumice and sand bags which were removed after curing. Embellishment of the dome transformed it into a cave with seating and mood lighting. In addition there is a ‘swim up’ bar with underwater seating to greatly enhance the experience that is a Top Ten Holiday. The engineering design and drafting for this project were completed by Neil Parinas and Paul Donaldson from our Taupo Office.
