The Mercury Building is a three storied building located on the corner of Titiraupenga and Heuheu Streets in Taupo. It has a footprint of approximately 1000 square metres and was built by Amtech Construction (who DB Consulting Engineers found excellent to work with).
A unique feature of the building is the lift which goes from the basement underground car park to all the floors. DB Consulting Engineers’s Engineering Manager Barry Smith completed the engineering design for the structural steel frame building which has tilt slab firewalls and a tilt slab car park.
The basement was particularly challenging to engineer as the building is next to an operating car yard, and the largest regular steel beams available were needed to span the twelve metre width of the car park.
