I graduated in England, and worked there for 2 years, then 3 years in Bahrain in the Middle East. After 6 months travelling I arrived in Taupo on a frosty, clear November morning and decided this would be a great place to live. Good decision. After 5 years in Taupo I had another stint overseas, back to Bahrain for a year, and then 5 years in Hong Kong. Getting back to Taupo I started Derek Booth Consultancy in 1984. In the meantime I moved from a 30 Ha. farm and 250 goats to a 130 Ha. Block with 1,000 sheep and 100 cattle. The sheep proved too labour intensive, and were replaced with 300 Dairy heifers. The business grew and became DB Consulting Engineers . We moved from sharing an office in town, to a shop in the Hilltop shopping area and finally our own premises on the corner of Spa road . Outside of work I have progressed through running, 4 Wheel Drive Rallying (S2 Landrover and SJ 560 Suzuki), sailing (Young 5.7 and Young 7.8), and then horses (Stock work, Endurance, Hunting and Eventing) and currently Mountain Biking.
Carolyn started working with Derek in 1996. Their main focus has always been to run a family orientated business with extremely high ethical standards and top quality work.
They both believe that work should be a happy, interesting place where the team and clients are both greatly valued.
Interests outside work revolve around family, friends and fun ways to keep fit and healthy.
Around work, she makes sure to have trips away once a year with family, and overseas as often as finances allow. Carolyn loves living in Taupo and enjoys the summers here greatly.

Very new to this type of work, however I am enjoying learning all the different aspects of structural, geotechnical, civil and environmental engineering.
